about the project
In protest of Ocean Plastic pollution activist Brittany Daniels, a 29 year old marine biologist from Cleveland inspired by Love The Sea is hiking about 170 miles around the entire coastline of Maui Island in two weeks. The main purpose of her endeavor is to raise funds and raise awareness for the increasing threats of Marine debris. Supporting crew will be picking up plastic litter along the journey leaving nothing but footprints behind them, plus documenting the most heavily polluted beaches. Meanwhile Love The Sea is matching her distance by circumnavigating the entire coastline of Maui by sea as well. This effort is in fact a reconnaissance mission for the H2R Beach program that will later return and deep clean the areas loaded with Ocean Plastics and Ghost Nets.
As an Intern for Love The Sea, Britt was a mutual fit since day one, aligned with our mission and core values. We at Love The Sea are dedicating our lives to maintain a healthy, thriving ocean. How are we going to do that ? The answer is simple: our vision is to monitor and clean every Ocean Front mile within the Hawaiian Islands, inspiring action towards the mitigation and recovery of Ocean Plastic from coastal areas around the entire world - YOU can help us do that !
Our main signature (Hard To Reach) H2R Beach Clean Up program is the one we’re linking to this Britt’s cause. This program is an efficient, low impact approach towards the recovery of Ocean Plastic from remote coastal areas, doing it by deploying ocean enthusiasts on an organized mission to clean beaches otherwise forgotten. Results show that our methodology to execute H2R Beach Clean Ups guarantees the retrieval of 1,200 lb. of Ocean Plastic per hour of picking. Love The Sea has 4x H2R beach Cleanups planned, which combined with others projects will make our target of 100,000 lb. of Ocean Plastic recovery possible for 2021.
At Love The Sea we protect what we love and we know you do too. This is a great opportunity for YOU to save the ocean from plastic.
We aim to raise $60,000 in two months to cover our costs in 2021. Please support, follow Britt & Love The Sea on this protest against Ocean Plastic pollution. We target 100,000 lb. of Ocean Plastic recovery over the next year.

a word from britt...
“Britt’s strides for clean tides in collaboration with Love The Sea" is giving me the chance to do something that means everything to me. Strapping on my 30 lb. backpack and hiking out into the unknown to save our seas. This is a time where a bunch of amazing people, on this tiny salty rock we call home, can come together to support a wild idea and start to fix the mistakes humanity has made with the production and management of plastic use. This hike is about taking action and making a call for change by showing the human impacts on the world. And yes this could be done other ways besides on foot, but to me there is nothing more exciting than tossing on my pack and exploring the rarely seen coastlines of Maui, the ones that aren’t packed with tourists and commonly targeted during major beach clean ups. It’s not just about my hike and me, it’s about the people I can’t wait to meet along the way, and what we can do to help keep Maui beautiful. It’s about people and the ocean, coming together to better one another. Despite a pandemic and a world shut down in times where it’s so easy to fall into sadness, there is however light at the end of the tunnel and I think it’s so cool that we’re alive and have the chance to create change. If anything, I hope to inspire others along the way, I hope to raise awareness about how big of a plastic problem we actually have”.
