h2r Overview:
Retrieval of ocean plastic and derelict fishing gear from remote hard to reach coastal areas. Love The Sea has created an efficient, low impact approach by deploying ocean enthusiasts on an organized mission to clean areas otherwise forgotten. Our team is dedicated to clean and monitor all coastal regions of Maui County and beyond.
how we do it:
We make a strategic plan, unique for each cleanup region.
- We start by identifying a troubled area and access the logistics required for the cleanup.
- We deploy a reconnaissance mission to the troubled area and access environmental sensitivities, potential hazards while collecting data for the before and after impact analysis.
- Weather windows and vessel requirements are all accessed and confirmed during reconnaissance to be sure a successful and safe cleanup can be achieved.
- We work cautiously yet proactively with a safe emergency response plan in place. Our efforts are backed with permits and insurance.
- After the day of extraction, we return to the cleanup site with the marine biologist crew, to document the positive impact on the coastal habitat.
community involvement:
- Highlight a LTS ambassador as lead athlete for each event who publicly promotes their stand against plastic pollution
- We work with a special team of waterman & woman (surfers, paddlers, divers, etc) Note: volunteer positions are limited depending on cleanup location and number of vessels required.
- Enroll a business, central to the chosen cleanup site as a custodian of their own coastal region.
- As community leaders, LTS youth and coalition partners are recognized participants in every event
